From water resources distribution to wastewater treatment: Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Information Management System

Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Information Management enables the management of all employees and tasks from a single central point, thus controlling the establishment’s all resources and processes effectively. Human mistakes are avoided. Savings on corporate resources’ time and cost are achieved.

Service provided within the scope of the project includes construction, maintenance and repair works of the necessary systems for all water enterprises that undertake both the proper distribution of drinking and utility water provided from underground and/or surface sources and the treatment of domestic and industrial waste water and their removal from residential areas.

Infrastructure studies were initiated in 2021 and the first module was activated by the end of 2022.

Ensuring Surveillance and Traceability

Work units’ tasks are performed on site for each Water and Wastewater Project. Transactions are initiated by the system and results are fed back. Information such as who did perform a transaction, on which date, how much time it took, etc. are all monitored. All steps related to a specific task can be traced from start to finish –forward- or from finish to start –backward- with their whole history. This Water and Wastewater Project’s said feature contributes to internal monitoring and traceability.

Directing Operation, Providing Process Management

Water and Wastewater Project users are guided through the next step to take. The system doesn’t allow to run the next phase unless the relevant rule which acts as the transaction’s trigger occurs. In case the next phase is clearly defined by rules, the system automatically creates work orders. Rules that are required to manage the process are set into the system during installation.

Increasing Efficiency

Water and Wastewater Project’s all operations are carried out without duplicating nor work nor data. Procedures are managed in accordance with system-defined rules. These rules are continuously updated according to laws and regulations that companies are obliged to comply with and adapted to companies’ changing course of action following new directives. Data generated from work execution is recorded to the system without loss nor inconsistencies. Data generated in one of the system’s component may be accessed and used by other system components, which eliminates unnecessary data duplication and thus avoids inconsistency related risks.

This structure facilitates data access. No time is spent to compensate data errors. Reports are automatically retrieved from the system without need for additional validation nor data check, thus improving labor efficiency and productivity. Work units’ courses of action become more systematic following the Water and Wastewater Project installation. Setting a habit based on making plans and working in accordance with them allows a better quality in both each work unit’s and the whole company’s operation.

Minimizing Losses and Leakages

The Water and Wastewater Project aims to eliminate losses and leaks encountered during water distribution and sale. The project, as far as the company’s technological infrastructure allows it, instantly monitors information gathered from systems operating on the field and prepares comparative reports based on consumption and collection data; it compiles data in order to report causes of technical or commercial loss or leakage. The Water and Wastewater Project compares collected data with predefined rules and automatically generates work orders to eliminate losses and leakages.

Reducing Cost

Increasing efficiency helps to decrease operational costs. The Water and Wastewater Project determines operational costs by monitoring resources (labor and tools’ usage, materials quantities, etc.) spent on each job and evaluates the company’s expenses determining their causes. Results are reported intending improvement, which allows to define methods to make cost-efficient operations.

Increasing Reliability

The operation runs on predefined rules instead of personal judgments. It is thus ensured that data fed into the system and information retrieved from these data are healthy, consistent and regular. When it comes to modules accessible by numerous users, data and operation accuracy is secured with system-defined work processes, user authorization and data access- control – monitoring methods. Generated data is trustworthy, which increases corporate reliability.

Access Authorizations and User Monitoring

Transactions are only effectuated by authorized users; the system keeps records on the users’ identity and monitors transactions’ time and date information. Users have authority to both access data and approve it; any unauthorized intervention is blocked and the attempt recorded. Confidential data is defined at system configuration phase; user authorizations related to these data accessibility may also be defined when entering and/or updating them. All transactions made on database tables (new record, record modification, cancellation), together with information such as data’s previous state, who performed the transaction, transaction date and from which terminal it was made are monitored on logs; authorized users may view log files.
